    Just a heads up... I'm not sure if its just a local deal (I doubt it) but I got one of those ad things that Guitar center mails out to customers and they're taking 500 dollars off the mac book pro's. Their base price is 1999 so you can get it for 1499. Its not online, just in store. I called to confirm.

    i dont know, i thought it was a pretty amazing deal.

    that's one hell of a deal. Student Discount only brings it to $1,799.00. Did you see it in the circular? btw, do they offer apple care?

    EDIT: i called around GC in Springfield they are out, EB they are out, only have floormodel. idk if i want to wait for os 10.5 or not.

    double EDIT: specs:
    * 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * 1440 x 900 pixels
    * 1GB memory
    * 120GB hard drive1
    * 6x double-layer SuperDrive
    * ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM

    it's pretty decent.

    Apparently you guys didnt read the post in my other thread...i knew i should have created a seperate thread....

    Anyhow, none of this is actually confirmed because as all you mac lovers know...apple will release the biggest thing in the world (aka iPod - which currently owns 72% of the worldwide mp3 player market) with ZERO advertising before the actual release....so this being said...it is "speculation":

    - That Apple will be releasing the santa rosa chipset in a new macbook pro frame that is supposedly due to launch either this tuesday 5th, or the following tuesday.

    What we know for definite is that they are outfitting the laptop with a LED screen...which creates longer battery life and better visual output...(also, the leopard OS GUI is being custom built for this new LED display...actually they are just making it an option since many people will use non-apple displays for their desktop computers, etc)

    The speculation is: Santa Rosa processors...although like i mentioned previously...this has the be the most feasible update seeing as all competitors are using this framework...

    - 160GB HD standard in base model
    - 2 GB ram standard in base model (in case you havent noticed ram prices are plummeted drastically in the last quarter)
    - while it's a nice feature...but kinda hard to believe...it is believed that apple has actually integrated the isight (camera on the top of the macbook pro cover) inside the screen itself where it is not physically visible to the naked eye....
    - and other stuff you can find out by doing a little online research...

    either way....the prices will still remain the same...you can expect to pay 1800 for the base model w/ student discount...and 2300 for the next model up....

    so if you are not interested in paying that much and a core duo or core 2 duo is good for you...then you can snag one for a pretty good price from a dealer such as GC...or even online at the apple outlet store....

    I think I am gonna upgrade to the santa rosa chipset when they drop it...lets see how soon this all goes down!

    edit: I am not sure about the 10.5 release...I think that if you buy the laptop in july...they will include a voucher for a free upgrade to 10.5 -- but i dont think if that will be the case....they might even do it now...since the OS is due out by october latest...

    That sounds about right considering I bought the 2.33 Ghz with 2 GB memory for about $400 more at the Mac store a month ago

    Well, at this time...we cant be sure...but most likely it seems like tomorrow will be the day they release.

    A very important thing i forgot to note earlier...I particularly dont liek this switch if it is actually true....but there is some bullshit about them going to an nvidia chipset....

    The original OSX OS was optimized for ATI technology....and now there is some speculation that leopard will be optimized for nvidia....

    and while i dont believe all the rumors....espcially this one...there is some crap about them upgrading the "boot camp" suite to better support windows vista more natively...and since microsoft has been known to dickride nvidia chips...along with intel in more cases than not.....I think Apple is trying to make this move to better serve its clients.....dont take this part for certain tho....rumors are rumors!

    ^im kinda confused on this bootcamp thing. I understand what it is and what it does, but it seems on the new macbooks, they are advertising it where as they didnt in the old one. Isnt bootcamp just a program, so wouldnt the old one be able to run it as well?

    also, the old macbooks have the illuminated keyboard as well right?

    ... and i mean MACBOOKS PRO on all the shit i just said

    Macbook Pros Update is now out. They have them in the stores. I went to the store to check it out...using the Apple RGB or Adobe RGB (1998) Color Display Mode side by side comparison shows that the LED model is CONSIDERABLY brighter than the non-led (older) unit.

    I would have bought one on my first visit, but there is this bullshit where they only updated the anti-glare models to LED. Only the 15" Anti-Glare that is.

    The 17 will not have LED as of yet, but it will be getting an insane resolution something around 1900 pixels...they are claiming that both the 15 and 17 will support 1080P, but the drive is still DVDRW.

    R-Pan...Bootcamp is a software program that allows you to run windows. However, it's functionality is integrated with the Mac OSX Operating System. It is not like virtual PC which would run a program (windows) inside another program (VPC). As time moves foward, they will be hyping this up and trying to streamline the windows/osx process in efforts to also better support ms vista.

    Apple left a little mystery in their MacBook Pro announcement today, and being that this marks their first official release of an LED-backlit laptop we had to take out the guesswork and get confirmation on a few of our more burning questions.

    * All 15-inch MBPs now use LED-backlit displays standard; 17-inchers still use CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent)
    * Apple claims users can see a battery-life benefit of between 30 mins - 1 hour (depending on use). They did not have stats on exact efficiencies between LED and CCFL backlit displays.
    * The new LED backlight is the same brightness: 300 vs 300 nits of the previous gen's CCFL
    * The viewing angle is also the same as before
    * In other words, besides faster time from fully-off to full-brightness and an increase in battery life, Apple claims users should notice absolutely no perceivable difference between last-gen displays and the new LED-backlit ones.
    :twitch:

    Other bits

    * To clarify, MacBook Pros are using Santa Rosa, but MacBooks are not yet using Santa Rosa
    * Even though the MBP is 0.2 pounds lighter, we're still without an internal / integrated 3G option

    Maybe I am unclear as to what unit u were exactly looking at side by side with the new LED screen, not sure what this RGB 1998 deal is, unless its some sort of marketing ploy for the store to try to show off the LED

    That's not insane, pc laptops have been doing that for YEARS, my Dell Inspiron 9300 does it, and thats nearly 4 yrs old.

    Shady: I dont know what website you pulled that off from...but about 20 minutes ago I had my cousin come over with his macbook pro, which he purchased a little LESS than 3 months ago (yes he is very heated) -- and I put it next to mine (that i just got today, glossy model the 2500 one) --

    The brightness is almost exact when his is running at full strength and mine is about 6 bars shy of full....that is my dead on experience, as i am LOOKING at it in front of my face....

    note: it is almost impossible to run the fucker at full brightness for extended periods of time in a dark room...because it is a bitch on your eyes...yes it's that bright....it's MUCH brighter than my 22" acer LCD which i have running around 83%

    Alay: Let me go into a little story....you tell me if I did it right or wrong:

    So i rolled into the apple store today around 11:30 am....and I was going to pick up the glossy...and then I noticed that the shit was ringing up around $150 less...so im like wtf...the guy goes...oh this one DOESNT have the LED screen...so i was like SHIT!! No i dont want that...and he took it back....

    then when i went back in later on...after reading up on the screen...and finding out that ALL 15" models are now LED...I went back to just play it off and say, oh i just decided i will take the glossy even if it LED. The manager however had decided to come in with more of a brain so he straight up cock-blocked my $150 discount....

    HOWEVER: You know how they have a free printer, and a free nano with the purchase...well this guy was a COMPLETE DEUCHE -- but i didn't want to tell him that...so i decided to play with his game...he said I could get the nano in any color, but only 4GB, not even the 8, or the larger even tho apple allows u to pay the difference....

    this winner decides to do the following:

    Normal Procedure: Ring everything up, then apply discount to what applies off THAT PARTICULAR ITEM and then rebates afterwards...

    Well, in the great state of Connecticut we have laws up the wazooo on the craziest shit in place to protect the people....one of those laws says...that if you even get remotely close to advertising something by even something as small as a shelf tag that says the item is FREE with purchase...then you have to give it free with purchase at the time of purchase....so that completely throws the rebate out the window! -- so now this guy should have discounted my ipod and zero'd it out...but no, what does he do, he rings the ipod at full, and takes another $200 off the "educators discount" line from the laptop...so basically i paid for the IPOD and got the computer for $2099 -- which is what I will end up getting it for when I bring the iPod back to another store and return it fair and square!

    I would be a jew about it and send in the rebate (cause technically I can still do that cause this guy didnt not ANYWHERE on any receipt or paperwork that the ipod was free, LOL), but i wont do that, cause its not that serious...im happy with $199 back -- the free printer is straight too, i haven't opened it up yet...but now we will have 5 printers @ the crib....

    So Cliff Notes: Buy the laptop now, enjoy the free nano and printer...and when osx comes out...you can either download the torrent and install it w/ the hack...or if you actually love apple like me...then just go out and cop the software...i am sure they will do that midnight sale...

    last time when i went to the midnite sale and bought OSX 10.0 when it first released, I ended up winning a t-shirt, optical mouse w/ osx mouse pad, and a keyboard cleaner packet (the one w/ the silicon cover and baby wipes)

    just keep in mind, they are planning to release that small dockable laptop...but most likely its gonna be 12" -- unless ur interested in that or the 17 LED...then get the 15...the price is right right now!

    I think at this time the best way to wait for a accurate representation of the macbook pro and its capabilities would be when CNET does their editor's review
