thanks for the report..:)
I went to a party there about last year for company visit... before my red-eye flight back, i stopped by some desi party - It was okay... nothing big. I got in for free b/c the promoter was from east cost and he was happy to see another jerz kid there.
bitches were kinda fobby, dudes were kinda fat. i dunno. not my scene.
its not too bad... i don't mind living here... I know the woman behind non-stop bhangra... she's really cool and pulls in a diverse crowd at ricksaws

Cherry chapstick is so overrated
^^ but I know from both coast...at least here on the west coast...we've (the desi scene) have gone through some slow times... there was a time I would have two back to back parties to work on the same night (four all together through fri-sun)... now I'm lucky if I get to go to two parties a month

Stern Grove featured Anoushka and Karsh Kale, now thats dope, and its an outdoor event, I think they also have done Dhol Foundation so in terms of the music, thats pretty desi. But if you mean by crowds, I am sure the east coast pulls a helluva lot more people
petpetz, im sorry but can you clarify, i have no idea what you are trying to say in relation to my point.
i would say i have seen you guys have way doper acts, but im guessing our venues are better.Originally Posted by zibasanjay [Dear Guest/Member, to see the link you must post to the thread Click Here to Register]

I think she was just commenting in general how the indian party scene in california has died. So no relation :)
I was playing dhol w/ non-stop bhangra, opening for karsh and anoushka (who's new project is stellar). We have similar stuff in NYC, a la summerstage or celebreate brooklyn in prospect park, but neither have the capacity--or amazing setting--of stern grove. equal funding though. the irony is that i played @ summerstage last year w/ cheb-i, a san fran artist (big up sandeep and jay!)Originally Posted by zibasanjay [Dear Guest/Member, to see the link you must post to the thread Click Here to Register]
Yeah Petz vicki is great. the whole non-stop family is really, really good peoples. the party was probably 70% desi but def. mixed-- the vibe was stellar.
playing thursday and saturday here as well, and coming back next month for another festival.. what a city! the appetite for music out here is amazing. NYC feels quite jaded by comparison.

i was just commenting on the desi scene... about maybe 75% of the parties that get talked about on here ... people say its lame or the scene is dying... comparing where the scene used to be six years ago... its slow imo... but then you do get that 25% where there's a party worth giving props toOriginally Posted by indecentspeech [Dear Guest/Member, to see the link you must post to the thread Click Here to Register]
i was actually the first in the south asian scene to interview her when she started teaching bhangra... its great to see how far she's taken her dream :) let me know the next time you're in town... ill take you out to lunch or something ... that goes for anyone else here tooOriginally Posted by TeReKeTe [Dear Guest/Member, to see the link you must post to the thread Click Here to Register]
