just got my new laptop notebook yesterday from HP but it's my first go at windows vista and to be honest i like XP so much better. However i'm going to give this a chance and see how it works out.

Any vista heads on tweaking my laptop.......anything software i should remove? get? tweaks?

      Holla!

i got vista with my HP as well, and i've had it for about a year now. Unless you're running 2 GB of RAM or more I've heard it runs a little slower. Other than that, it's pretty nice. I kinda wished it didn't use the memory as much as it does, but if you want the fancy layout and what not gotta sacrifice some memory.

HP does come with a lot of excess programs, so just get rid of most of those other than the QuickPlay which handles the functionality of your media buttons.

double up your paging file, it should help with memory usage..try to make it at least double the size of ram you have in your system.

turn off UAC .. basically just play around with the settings and get them to work the way you want .. and theres also some services you can turn off to optimize memory usage .. after all the tweaking vista is actually pretty nice .. the only gripe i have is with the registry but its either something sony or i messed up cos i still haven't found anyone with the same problem as i have lol

Format your laptop , re-install Vista, and install the apps YOU want..HP Machines comes with so much Bloatware.

Thats UAC (User Account Control).. Disable it:

Go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn Off User Account Control
